Each year various organisations and companies offer competitions and funds for innovation. One regular source appropriate to farmers is that offered by the Home Grown Cereals Authority (HGCA).

General Information

Home Grown Cereals Authority offers up to £50,000 to develop an innovative idea for a new or existing grain-based product both in the UK and overseas. It must result in additional grain sales. The awards are competitive.

Food and drink products using grain at any stage of the production process are eligible - for example previous winners include breweries, bakeries and meat producers.

Non-food uses for cereals (wheat, barley, oats, rye), oilseeds of by-products such as straw - for example in packaging, plastics, textiles or starches - are also eligible.
